The Drama Club enables
students to develop their talents for future use. This club
has brought to WHS "Fanny
the Fisherman's Daughter",
which ran for a sensational 3
days. The spring season
opened with the musical
"Oliver". Oliver seemed like
an all school production with
the Drama, Music, and Art
Depts. all pitching in. This
year the Drama Club started
a new tradition-the making of
of the Childrens Theater for
District Elem. schools. Drama
Club is sponsored by Miss
Ann Baird.

Pom-Pon Girls
The Widefield Pom-Pom Girls did a great job
this year. They attended a ation-wide clinic in
Utah where they placed 2nd and brought home
the spirit trophy. They performed at halftime
for football and basketball games. At one time
in the year they howed their spirit and brotherhood by doing a routine with Harrison (our
rivals). The squad contained 5 seniors and 5 juniors. Weal o had a Junior Varsity squad made
up of sophomores. They tried hard throughout
the sea on to make a good squad. Both squads
were sponsored by Miss Peterson and Mi s Watson.

Forensic Team

Is A
Competitive Team

152

The Forensics program provides training in how to
think quickly as well as critically. Training in how to
express an idea clearly so they may be understood is
one of the team's goals.
Forensics also provides training in organization and
integrating arguments into a coherent whole.
The program provides development of the speaking
voice. It also provides for development of interpretation, or an original composition, which leads to greater
poise and self assurance.
Debate is a competitive sport wlitch affords the student with knowledge of current social, political and
economic problems.

This year's Tennis Team was a young team containing six juniors, seven sophomores, and no seniors. The enthusiastic
underclassman had sixteen sophomores and six freshmen go
out for the seven man team. According to Coach Ralph Johnson, next year's team should come out strong since there are
so many returning players.

Wazuri ... Swahili for black or growing in
