Both the link leaders and the freshmen got to know new people
fun and creative ways. Going down the line, they would share
stories in a short amount of time or used teamwork to arrange
in birthday order without speaking a word. The
had a great time and met new friends along the way.

High School was a scary place for almost every freshman. Some
dread it, others looked forward to it, either way, there was no avoiding
it. But here, our Link Crew made sure the freshmen en)oye their stay.
"I was really nervous because it's a step up, but I'm excited for
new opportunities," said Makayla Shoup (9). H1gh School definitely was
a big step up, it was a completely new experience, new people, new
classes, new activities.
"I'm really excited to meet new people, and I'm looking forward
to my German class," explained Amanda Gillette (9).
Link Crew helped freshmen through that first year of high school.
They treated them like friends because some might not have had any
to begin their high school career. The Link leaders made sure freshmen
orientation was fun and unforgettable.
"It was pretty fun and interesting. The leaders were really cool,
they helped me meet new people and showed me where my classes
were," said Amber Siedler (9) remembering her orientation. The Link
Leaders definitely made the freshmen feel at home.

very year we participated in spirit week. This year we had the usual days, but
some stuck out more than others. Although some students didn't join in on the
fun. most did. "Nerd day was my favorite; it always brings out the inner kid in
people and makes for a great laugh!" proclaimed Carlos Bowdre (12).
The math department really had fun with spirit week this year. Everyday Mrs.
Overstreet showed up in some crazy clothes or funny style. Toga day was a big hit
this year. Garrett Wilson (9) stated. "Even though I didn't do it, I thought it was cool
and very creative."
Sean Creamer ( l 0) and Daniel Creamer ( l 2) accidently thought Mr. Skalla
had said yoga day instead of toga and ended up wearing yoga pants to school.
Snap back and jersey day was a hit also. Koree Green (l 0) bragged, "I got
to see all the teams and show off my swag." There were jerseys from almost every
kind of team and snapbacks from all over.
The Homecoming assembly also played a big part in spirit week. It gave
recognition to the fall sports and its members. Nominees were also called out during
the assembly. Anthony Wentzel (l 0) shared. "It was really cool seeing all the people
who got nominated. It got me excited to go to homecoming."
We had tons of spirit and knew how to show it. Stay classy Widefield.

Trends came and went. but which did you remember ? Every year we had different trends. some lasted a
week and some stuck around for a while. We had trends that were unique to only our school and some across the
nation.
Hair was one trend that spend to catch. "I see a girl with a different color in her hair every week," said
Krystyna Goldsbery (1 0). Girls weren't the only ones who participated in trends. Even though guys didn't wear different colors 1n their hair, they wore different colors in their socks.
"I see guys wearing como pants. tie dye socks, and stripped tanktops," said Kyle Miller ( 11 ). Girls weren't
wearing como pants. but they did still have clothes that were a part of a trend.
Comfort has always been an important trend "I notice a lot more people wearing yoga pants," said Laura
Larsen (11 ). No matter what, we always had trends at our school Whether it meant some kids showing their syle,
comfort was important to others. Some trends will be forgotten but others will be rembered forever.
One unique trend was the emergence of the bronies. If you had not heard of them, you were not alone
Bronies were the male fans of theN show "My Little Pony· Friendship Is Magic." It was not as childish as you might
have thought. The show Jtself had, and still possess a unique sense of quality. The outstanding animation. voice
acting, and story telling in the show, along with the collaborative developers was what caused this uprise of male
fans.

Fear was an unpleasant emotion that everyone got when
they believed that something was dangerous, scary, or would
result in a loss. Whether it was imaginary or real , fear left
people in a state of feeling afraid . Many people had this
emotion because of previous experiences that may had been
traumatizing or because they were unsure of how they would
deal with something 1f it were to actually happen.
Marcel Cormier ( ll) said, "My greatest fear would be losing
someone important to me because I'd feel like a part of who
I am would be gone, there would be an emptiness that I
wouldn't ever be able to refill."
Fears often made people express symptoms of anxiety
or stress . If someone's fear was too much of a surprise it
frightened them so much as to leave them in a distressful
situation.
Brandon Webb ( l 0) said, "One time I opened my shower
door, saw a giant sp1der and fainted."
There were many fears that were mutual among a wide
audience of people, for example, the fear of spiders, dark
enclosed spaces, or public speaking . Cameron Smith (12)
stated, "My fear is heights," which was a fear that was fairly
common to people. It was a natural emotion for everyone to
have, that was a part of everyday life.

()rfn? Well, Senior Ravyn Snoggrass has; it was the first concert of

the year and the audience had just finished applauding at the String Orchestra's
great preformance. It grew quiet as the students left the stage. All of the sudden
Ravyn's heel got caught in her too long, dress pants as she was walking down the

out of her hands. Everyone in the big auditorium watched as she fell on the floor. "It
was so embarrassing! Everyone was looking at me. I didn't get hurt and my viola was
fine but the humiliation was awful!" stated Ravyn remembering that dreadful incident
that occurred her sophmore year clear as day.

stated, recalling that awkward moment. "I went into
the bathroom and noticed it wasn't the right color of

she raced out of there as quick as she could. "This one guy
gave me a weird look as I left." Everyone has their own

many students, their dream jobs were still quite a bit from their current
position in high school. Some of them, however, were already extensively
practicing these skills in their everyday lives. A few were attending college and
acquiring the necessary skills. An extraordinary sparse amount were already
contributing to the workforce on their career of choice.
"If you have a passion to do something, take action now before your
chance slips. I know I did and now I'm attending college with the AVP program
in the culinary fields," stated Samantha Deck (11 ).
The Area Vocational Program (AVP) was a way for a select few to
partake in an excellent opportunity to attend college-level classes 1n PPCC.
Students left WHS at the end of the first period and returned around lunchtime.
This left only three classes that they had to take care of in the high school level
and they still had the convenience of earning school credit if they achieved a
certain grade in their college class.
"Irs best to start thinking of what you wanna do now, before irs too
late," said Matthew Bobian (12), who was taking Multimedia Graphic Design
through the AVP.
Even if one may not exactly be too sure about their intentions for their
future, it was contemplative to at least know what he or she was good at and
to start or further specialize in that theater.
"''m taking Zoology in PPCC because I really love animals - just follow
what you wanna do and go with it!" said K'Lee Jensen (12).
Just as stated above, it was commendable for students to start to figure out what they loved to do, or to find something that they really excelled at,
and continue to develop their skills relating to that area.

what students did in their time after school. it was their choice.
When asked what he liked to do after school. Caleb Cole (9) said, "I enjoy practicing
guitar and I usually go somewhere on my own to practice guitar after school."
Some students have a musical passion. but others desire things like food. Many people
would also eat anything they saw in sight and feast on anything in sight. Van Wilson (12) enjOyed
eating. He said, "I go home and eat up anything!" Most students were Involved in sports. jobs, or
simply went home and took a nap. However. Trevor "Jiggy'" Gordon (11) hung out with friends and
chose to go to games or just kick it. Usually he hung out around the community center, or
someone's house or a store.
Sports was a popular passion for many. With practice everyday and games on many
weekends, it was a big commitment for many. Haley Armstrong (9) said, "I go to basketball
practice sometimes youth and hang out with friends."
Some students had activities outside of school. Alec Klopenstine (12) was a gymnast and
she pract1ced almost everyday of the week. "I first did ballet and tap dancing but I would always
enjoy handstands and cartwheels, so my parents put me in gymnastics. and I stuck with it for 9

Look I get it! Golf isn't the most exciting
sport in the entire world, especially for high school. I mean if I was to pick a
fall sport to watch I'd pick football too. Golf isn't a sport for "outsiders" and
when I say "outsiders," I mean people who don't understand the addictive
challenge golf offers.
When I asked James Gallogly ( 1 2) what it was that got h1m so
pumped for golfing he said, "One thing that motivates me to play golf is
the fact that you can never be perfect in the game! You can always slide
or accidently draw the ball, so anything can happen " As Gallogly stated,
you never knew how many you were going to play; so yo it was like life. you
never know how your day will g o, you just have to hope for the best. Most of
our inner m ora ls played a b ig part in our game.
For instance. R.J. Haenze(ll) sta ted , "Winning ! Doing good a s a te am
and d oing bette r as a team . The n again whats winning?!" R J. wa s a winner
and a team player so he constantly tried h1s best to m otivate the team as
well as himself to work hard and focus to the best of o ur ability.
See! 1t's a different challenge for everyone . We didn't find golf
exciting either. we were merely addicted to the constant challenge of
mental focus and skill. Golf Isn't o sport ... but a game played professionaly.

T hese guys might not be on Varsity yet, but most of the JV team qualified. In fact JV had the
best record between the three teams. "We ended with only two losses, setting a new JV record of
17-2, which is way better than last year," said Raymond Ibarra (1 0). "This year was by far the best
year." When t1mes got tough they knew how to handle it.
"We had a lot of chemistry" Isaiah Thorpe (9) said, "Team work built our chemistry." Even
though they were young and m ade mistakes, C-squad pushed themselves to correct them. The boys'

asketball is a sport I've played my entire life, so knowing
that this is my last year playing basketba ll for a team is
heart-breaking. However, I'm very proud how I'm go

record of 17-6. As a team we've worked extre
have become very close; these guys are my be

never stops. My team will always be my team and I
continue to use many aspects that I've learned from
game like hard work, perserverance, ded ication, and

his year's varsity season welcomed girls wrth drfferent skills, different
ages, and different personalities. They all got together and used their
differences to make a better team. The season started off with rusty

ennis is one of those sports that you can play for the rest of your life, it's one of
those sports you never forget. These girls had a true passion for the sport. They
had the dedication to come out every day and gave it there all in practices
and matches. These girls would play every chance they got, sometimes even on the
weekends . "We've all come so far . We started from the bottom and now we're here,"
said Octavia Perry (11 ).
Each game started with the common phrase. "Iove-aii" which is another way
of saying 0-0. The scoring may sound weird to everyone else, but to them, it was
completly normal. "It's not just how you play on the court, but how you 1nteract with
each other. Having fun makes the game enjoyable for everyone." said Makayla
Shoup.
Even though the girls either played with a partner or by themse·ves, they all
had a special bond with one another and a friendship that would last

'What can I say about this crazy team? Well. there's a lot I can say,
we've worked so hard this season, and improved our skills by so much. This
team has become family to me. they've made my second season on
varsity a blessing . I've enjoyed working with these girls and growing so close
to each and every one of the. I just want to say I love you girls! Make it a
good season next year." -Danielle Torres
Break away to the goal, 1 on 1 with the keep. GGOOOMLLL!!
The Gladiator soccer teams worked extremely hard to get where they
wanted to be. Both of the teams grew close during the season. Through
thick and thin, win or lose they always stuck with it, going to their full
potential making sure every game was better than the last. Even out of
season, both varsity and JV are one big family.
